Comment: See dagay; this is possibly ergative (transitive subject) form of dagay, and is a name for early white settlers in southern Qld. Watson states: 'applied when they were exploring in search of grazing country, the inflection '-iyu- indicates irregular movement, and the whole word means 'Travelling, or walkabout, white man'??. Phonetically pronounced in English the word is jug-ai-ee-oo, spoken quickly, but has by white people been corrupted to jackaroo,'
